Happy New Week! Its seems like the rest of the year is flying by, I can almost smell Christmas 🙂
I’m here today for you lovely nappy folks with a Product Review \slash\ Hair Tutorial. Lately wearing wigs have become cumbersome and tiring, simply because I’m bored of it. As a Fashion Model I do not have the luxury of experimenting with different protective styles (like braids).
So I needed another style flexible enough to not affect work, still protect my ends and give me a chique look.
In the past I’ve steered away from such looks because my hair is still quite short except when it’s fully stretched, and I usually need a gel to hold it down. And this is where the problem lies. Every gel I’ve used has left my hair EXTREMELY dry and flaky (with white residue) so I totally cut out styling with gels and usually opt for a curling custard.
Enter Aunt Jackie’s Flaxseed Elongating Curling Gel…

Have you used Aunt Jackie’s before? What do you think about her range of products? I have tried the Curl La La Curling Custard and the Knot On my Watch Detangler from the Aunt Jackie’s range but the overall feeling was mostly average. Did not bother to re-buy any of those, so I was quite skeptical to purchase this gel as well. I was really trying to get my hand on some Eco-styler gel, and we all know how much of a mission this is. I found one online store that was selling for R99 with a whopping R65 for shipping fees, all for one gel??! And I still had to wait 3 whole days to get it. Yah neh… Aunt Jackie FLaxseed gel was literally glowing off that shelf like Rafiki holding Simba up to the horizon in Lion King LOL
I am honestly very happy with this product. And It is definitely a keeper!!!
- Water Based
- Hydrating: Felt more like a moisturizing detanlger than a gel (Holy Grail glycerin!)
- Smooth Light&Easy Consistency (not Globby)
- Non- Sticky
- Curly Girl Certified ( Sulphate,Paraben,Mineral Oil and Petroleum Free)
- Decent hold: I was going for a more natural looking updo, and not the super gelled down sleeked look, so used only a little a gel. And i still didn’t need to tie a scarf around it to lay it!!! It was literally apply and go.
- Contains Wheat Protein: I protein treat my hair only when I feel I need it because my Fro is protein sensitive, but this is Hydrolyzed. Total Win!!!
